The light of jiaozi illuminates us

　　2016年7月23日，成都世纪城国际会议中心。全球重要国家的财政部长和央行行长、众多世界经济组织的负责人们，从全球各地飞来这里聚会。

　　On July 23, 2016, New International Convention & Exposition Center at Chengdu Century City. Finance ministers and central bank governors from the world's major countries, and the leaders of numerous international economic organizations have gathered here.

　　700多年前，意大利人马可.波罗来过；100年前，英国园植物学家威尔逊也来过，并将1500多种植物引种到西方的皇家园林和私人花园；现今，美国的苹果公司也来了，通过两张卫星云图发现了四川的“热点”，并投资建太阳能电站。

　　More than 700 years ago, Venetian merchant traveler Marco Polo was here. A hundred years ago, notable British botanist E.H. Wilson was here and introduced more than 1500 plant species to the royal and private gardens of the west. Today, American giant Apple Inc. is here, and through two satellite images they discovered Sichuan's "hot spots", where they decided to invest and construct solar power plants.

　　At present, more than 300 companies of Fortune Global 500 status have invested in Sichuan. The western Chinese city of Chengdu is attracting an increasing number of guests from all over the world.

　　世纪城国际会议中心正北方10公里，成都市中心有条通锦路，据考证，世界上最早的纸币交子，就诞生在这里。

　　About 10 km north of the Century City New International Convention & Exposition Center is Tongjin Road, right in the heart of Chengdu. According to research and investigation, jiaozi, the world's earliest paper money, was born here.

　　交子的出现，代表着财富的聚集。当时，成都人口占全国的17%，商税额占全国的20%。正是贸易兴旺，才催生了信用货币。

　　The appearance of jiaozi represented the amassment of wealth. At the time, Chengdu population and business tax respectively accounted for 17% and 20% of the national totals. The credit currency was created precisely because of this prosperity.

　　千年之后，四川依然是财富云集之地。2015年，四川GDP首次突破3万亿大关，在全国的排位第六。

　　After a thousand years, Sichuan is still a land where wealth amasses. In 2015, Sichuan's GDP broke the three trillion yuan mark for the first time and ranked sixth nationwide.

　　2010年，美国《福布斯》杂志发布报告，成都为未来10年全球发展最快城市第一名。成都还被《财富》杂志列入15个全球最佳新兴商务城市……

　　In 2010, Forbes reported that Chengdu is going to be the fastest developing city in the world in the next decade. Chengdu was also listed as one of the 15 best emerging business cities by Fortune magazine...

　　过去10年，这里经济年均增速超过10%，成为全国乃至全球经济增长最快的区域之一，这不仅极大地改变了四川本地人民的生活，也为全球带来创富机遇，有超过300家世界500强企业在这里投资发展。

　　In the past decade, the economy here expanded by more than 10% every year, becoming one of the fastest growing economic regions in the whole country and even across the planet. This development not only altered the life of Sichuan locals, but also presented to the world an opportunity to generate wealth, as over 300 of the Fortune Global 500 companies have decided to invest and develop in Chengdu.

　　截至今年5月底，成都共有各类银行、证券、保险机构总计400余家，其中，外资银行、保险公司总数分别为16家和17家，居中西部城市前列。

　　As of the end of May this year, Chengdu is home to more than 400 banks, securities companies and insurance organizations of various kinds. Of which, there are 16 foreign banks and 17 foreign insurance companies, figures that are at the top echelon of central and western Chinese cities.

　　交子是技术创新，需要特殊的纸张和印刷技术；金融创新，也需要原有的货币制度、交易制度作出改变。古代四川人民的智慧产生了人类经济史上的这一成果，其创新精神激励今人。

　　Jiaozi is a technological innovation, as it required special paper and printing technology. Financial innovations also require changes be made to existing currency and trade mechanisms. The wisdom of the ancient Sichuan people made this achievement in economic history, and its spirit of innovation inspires the people of today.

　　30多年 前，四川的广汉县开启了全国农村改革的序幕；上世纪90年代，四川宜宾在全国率先开始国营企业产权制度改革；2007年，成都被确定为全国统筹城乡综合配 套改革试验区；2015年，四川被确定为全国全面创新改革试验区……不同的时代，四川一次次选择把创新作为推进社会前进的重要动力。

　　More than 30 years ago, Guanghan county of Sichuan became the prelude to the country's rural reform. In the 1990s, Sichuan's Yibin was the first to implement reforms to the system of property rights in state-owned enterprises. In 2007, Chengdu was confirmed as a national pilot zone for integrated urban-rural comprehensive reform. In 2015, Sichuan was listed as a national trial zone for comprehensive innovation reform...in different eras, Sichuan continue to leverage on innovation as the chief driving force behind its social progress.

　　在G20财长和央行行长会议召开之即，从会场向外眺望，世界经济仍处于深度调整中，近期发生的英国脱欧、土耳其政变、尼斯血案……一系列事件揭示当今世界充满许多不确定性。

　　As the curtain rises for the G20 Financial Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, looking outward from the venue, the global economy is still in a state of extensive adjustments. Brexit from the EU, military coup in Turkey, Bastille Day attack in Nice...these events foretell that much uncertainties still exist in the world today.

　　放眼未来，希望在开放、创新。

　　Looking ahead into the future, hope lies in openness and innovation.

　　交子诞生的北宋时期，成都就是中国最富庶、最开放的区域之一；当下的四川，尽管深处内陆，但对外开放一直走在全国前列。

　　Jiaozi was born in the Northern Song Dynasty, when Chengdu was one of China's most prosperous and opened regions. Though situated deep in the hinterland, the degree of present Sichuan’s openness has always been at the forefront nationwide.

　　截至今年5月底，成都双流机场共有航线257条，其中国际(地区)航线88条，初步建立了面向东南亚、东亚，直达欧洲、北美、大洋洲的国际航线网络，曾经的西部内陆城市，也正在成为国家向西开放的前沿。

　　As of the end of May this year, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport offers 257 flights, including 88 international (cross-regional) routes, and an international flight network with access to Southeast Asia, East Asia, and direct linkage to Europe, North America and Oceania has been formed. The western inland city of the old has now become the frontier of the country's western expansion.
